In the Santa Ynez Valley, California, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, this property is a peaceful retreat and a tribute to European architecture.
Behind this project is a family story. Grassini Family Vineyards purchased La Tarantella in 2022, intending to create a welcoming, inspiring and elegant space where they could enjoy and share their wines with guests and club members in an intimate and peaceful haven.
On the other hand, commercialize the space by organizing private events such as weddings or dinners.

The original property was built as a private residence in the 1990s by Choate Associates, and the original owners were avid travellers and collectors of Spanish, French and Italian architectural elements. It is, therefore, not surprising to find, for example, French walnut columns from the 19th century at the entrance to the living room or French limestone fireplaces from the early 18th century with original bricks inside.

"La Tarantella" is an Italian dance, which some believe to be a courtship dance or performed at weddings to wish the couple good luck - and this was the inspiration and "the starting point for the project", as interior designer Corinne Mathern recalls. The first event to be held at the villa was a wedding. The design team created a narrative of what the wedding would look like, what drinks they would have in each space, how guests would move around the property, and what colours would make the perfect setting for the event. This narrative was the perfect inspiration to make the property welcoming and inspiring for future events.

The exterior of the property is a terracotta pink plaster, which is elegant and cheerful at the same time. The design team brought the enveloping tones of olive trees, vines and hills for the interior, with a soft palette of neutrals, sage greens and dusty blues. Stained oak was used to bring the natural wood element throughout the home. To play with the wood tones throughout the property, Corinne Mathern brought in chocolate brown, rust tone, bronze and cream.
